The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has just high-fived themselves now that the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) has given them the green light to develop technologies (in conjunction with hardware manufactures) that will allow them to temporarily disable features of your TV and/or home theatre.
This is all being done to stop piracy.
I'm curious, with the growing trend towards have net-enabled home theatre components (like your Blu-Ray player, for those all important firmware updates), if we're eventually going to see a new generation of malware that targets your living room.
Anyways, just the idea of giving any group so blatantly unconcerned with consumer rights the ability to switch bits of my TV on and off gives me the willies. That's right, willies, as in more than one willy.
